Are MP3 Music Downloads Affecting the Big Fish?

November 1st, 2008 by admin

The major record company recording industry is feeling the effect of mp3 music downloads and not in a positive way.  The record industry’s main product is the CD and they are not exactly flying off the shelf. In 2006, CD sales accounted for over 80 percent of record company’s total global sales.  This amount dropped by 19 percent in 2007 and it appears that there is no end in site for future CD sales declines.

The big fish are reeling to come up with some alternatives for growth and resurgence in sales, but the new evolution is still to be seen.  As shelf space for music CD’s diminishes both domestically and globally, the fight to increase physical music media sales may become a losing battle for the record companies.
