When it comes to debt management companies, I am never sure how they work.  When I look into what all they can do for us, I guess I am amazed that they should be able to get my credit card companies to accept a lower payment when I haven’t been able to do it.  Obviously they have specialists who have experience dealing with the creditors.  Further, the creditors must know you mean business if you are working with a credit counseling agency because the counseling agencies are the last step before bankruptcy.  If you file bankruptcy, they may not get anything, so it behooves them to accept a smaller payment.
