Basic Puppy Training

When you get your new puppy you should already have a clear and set plan for training. If you do not you need to get one together right away. Of course the first thing that you probably want to accomplish is potty puppy dog training. You probably want to get this difficult stage over with as quickly as possible. But potty training is not the only training that your puppy is going to need. Training your puppy is a constant battle of wills because up until now your puppy has been allowed to do whatever he wants whenever he wants. You need to get your puppy out of the thought process that he is in control and let him know that you have rules and boundaries that you intend to have kept. You need to make sure that he respects your territory just as he would his own. This is a tedious process of consistent training but eventually your puppy will respect your commands. Make sure that you and your family are always consistent with your house rules. Don’t let the puppy on the couch if you don’t want him to use it as his bed. If you don’t want the puppy to use the toilet as his watering bowl, keep the lid down at all times. Making sure that your puppy understands that you are in command is the most important, this will keep him from thinking that he has the rule of your house!
