In particular, I would tell anyone to Beware of Background Check Scams.  Lately many people have been disappointed when they spent money upfront to join a program which promised they could make cash with their own people search engine.  A lot of unhappy people found this program wasn’t what they expected.  But the Net is still a great place to make money.  It just pays to be cautious.
