We discovered that we got much closer to nature when we camped in tents.  During our participation in the Master’s program we decided that if we wanted to do any serious studying we would need to get away on the weekends.  Unfortunately as we were both students we did not have money for motels or other indoor spots.  Out tent became our weekend home 12 months out of the year in any and all weather.  We were awakened in the mornings by the soft sound of snow on our tent and by the loud quack of ducks that were investigating us.
